Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013
Though I am sure the kids were all tired, we still got them up and around in time to walk to church together. Our church here always serves coffee and cookies after the service so while the adults talked together with some of our German friends, the boys returned home in order to change and head to the soccer field. I do believe that all seven of the boys would have been content to spend the rest of their time in Germany playing soccer together! We had other plans though. Borrowing bikes from friends at church, we were able to have enough bikes to tour the area both on Easter Sunday and Monday. So after a bowl of soup and an Easter candy hunt in the kitchen, we hopped on the bikes for a short ride to the lake. Note to self: the pink Kinderschoko eggs are not special for Easter, they are for girls. So all but one boy got a girl's prize. Oops.

Kiessee is a lake near our house that has walking/biking paths all around
it. While the adults sat by the lake, the kids tore up the paths. It was quite
a chilly afternoon so after some time, they all headed back to the house.
Jill and I joined them shortly in order to start supper. Just a bit later, Tracy
and Scott got caught in a typical Göttingen five minute blizzard! |

It's amazing the variety of birds around that we never take the time to see. |

This is just one example of what Scott helped us to see and identify. God's
creativity is clearly seen in the beauty of birds. |

Uncle Scott had a really nice scope that we used to get great views of the
birds. His binoculars were also very nice. Birding isn't nearly as enjoyable
without the right equipment - makes all the difference when you can
actually get a good view of them! |
After warming up with some hot chocolate, we enjoyed a meal of lasagna for our Easter dinner. Not wanting to spend more time in the kitchen than necessary while Scott, Jill and the boys were here, I opted to make as much as possible ahead of time. Lasagna seemed like a safe bet. And the boys really wanted to introduce their cousins to their favorite drink - Fassbrause - so we had some of that, too. It is a lemonade type drink that is bottled nearby in Nörten-Hardenberg. It has become their treat each Friday night with homemade pizza. In the photo below, the boys are sharing the German style of wishing good health - "Prost! Zum Wohl!"
|
For dessert, the boys asked Uncle Scott to make his chocolate sauce which
is served over ice-cream. This is something that my family had as a treat
when I was a girl. Now it is something that Uncle Scott always seems to get
roped into making. We even call it 'Uncle Scott's Chocolate Sauce' and have
introduced many of the boys' German friends to this treat. |
